Reduce nuisance alarms in perimeter protection: Reduce costs and increase security!

August 15, 2023

Reduce your perimeter protection costs by suppressing up to 90% of nuisance alarms while optimizing security - with our new Perimeter+.

Nuisance alarms are expensive! The alarm processing workflow in a control center incurs average costs of 50 cents to 3 euros per event. Unnecessary on-site interventions by security staff or by the police generate additional expenses. In total, each nuisance alarm costs you an estimated 5 to 10 euros! Unavoidably, alarm systems for perimeter protection are exposed to a multitude of environmental factors. Therefore, video verification is an important component to accelerate alarm processing, to verify alarms effectively, to reduce unnecessary on-site interventions and thus to lower costs.

Even more effective is the reduction of the number of falsely reported alarms ("false positives"). This bears an enormous cost reduction potential in perimeter protection! But how can
you avoid nuisance alarms? Simply reducing the detection sensitivity is not a viable option, as this may lead to the system ignoring relevant events, thus reducing the level of security. The alternative: invest properly and realize cost savings of up to 85%!

Video analysis is an effective method for perimeter surveillance. Classic video motion detectors detect motion very well in real time. However, they are sensitive to environmental influences such as flying insects, light reflections, leaves or wild animals, generating an important number of nuisance alarms. These can be reduced with complex parameterization and continuous adjustment which is time-consuming and costly, and the methods themselves have their limitations.

In the past years, advance in hardware performance have boosted the application of algorithms based on artificial intelligence (AI). These methods are able to classify recognized objects distinguishing between, for example, persons, vehicles, dogs or other categories. However, they can also be easily tricked: an intruder putting a simple cardboard box over himself is not recognized by the AI as a person and will not trigger an alarm – resulting in a "false negative".

The solution: the combination of both methods as in our new Perimeter+. This fusion of classic motion detection and a specially trained AI-based object classification reliably detects threats in real time and reduces nuisance alarms by up to 90%! Additionally, the system is able cover long distances, allowing you to reliably protect your perimeter with less camera infrastructure. Since Perimeter+ is server-based, it can be used in existing installations without costly investments in new cameras. The configuration wizard provides you pre-defined security profiles for the optimal balance between detection reliability and nuisance alarm risk, saving additional time and costs during setup.

Increase your perimeter security with Perimeter+ and reduce your operating costs by up to 85%!
