Modbus Integration for G-Core

Connect Video Surveillance with Machines, Control Systems and Technical Infrastructure

With the integrated Modbus interface, G‑Core connects video surveillance directly with PLC control systems, sensors, actuators and technical installations. States, measured values and alarms from industrial and building technology systems can be captured, evaluated and directly linked with video information. This makes G‑Core an active part of technical and security-relevant processes.
The fully integrated Modbus connectivity in G‑Core was developed to address common requirements from industrial, infrastructure and building automation projects. It replaces traditional isolated solutions and enables flexible integration of technical systems directly within the platform.

Why Modbus?

Many security-relevant pieces of information do not originate in the video surveillance system itself, but in technical installations and control systems. Whether production machinery, building management systems, energy supply systems or PLC control systems, important states and events are often already available in Modbus registers.

With the integrated Modbus interface, G‑Core can directly utilize this information and link it with video recordings, alarms and automation processes. This creates a better operational picture, faster response times and more efficient operational workflows.

Technical events are detected where they originate and can automatically trigger video recordings, notifications or additional actions. This turns video surveillance into an active component of technical operational processes.

G-Core as Part of Technical Processes

With Modbus, G-Core becomes the interface between video surveillance and technical infrastructure.

Capture Technical States

G‑Core can cyclically read Modbus registers and automatically detect changes. Measured values, status information and technical alarms are therefore immediately available for security and operational processes.

Control Installations and Devices

Using Modbus write commands, actions within G‑Core can trigger technical processes and transfer information directly to control systems and actuators.

Automate Events

Changes to register values can automatically trigger alarms, recordings or additional actions within G‑Core. This makes it possible to directly link technical events with video data and evaluate them more quickly.

Process Data Intelligently

Integrated JavaScript processors enable the processing, filtering and transformation of Modbus data directly within G‑Core. This allows project-specific automation and evaluation logic to be implemented.

Typical Use Cases

Visualize Machine States

Production facilities and machines report operating states, faults or maintenance events directly to G‑Core. Video data helps identify root causes faster and provides transparent insight into operational processes.

Verify Technical Alarms

Alarms from PLC control systems, energy installations or technical systems can be immediately verified using live or recorded video. This helps reduce false alarms and shorten response times.

Video in Response to Process Events

Register changes can automatically start video recordings, switch cameras or trigger notifications. Events from automation systems become immediately visible.

Monitor Energy and Utility Systems

Connect power distribution systems, substations, water systems or utility infrastructure to your video surveillance system and create a unified view of technical and visual information.

Remotely Control Installations

Technical functions, outputs and control systems can be addressed directly via Modbus write commands. This makes G‑Core part of automated operational workflows.

Connect OT and Security Systems

Connect Operational Technology (OT) with security and video solutions to jointly evaluate technical events and security information.

Flexible Data Processing with JavaScript

No two installations use the same register structures or data models. For this reason, the Modbus integration was deliberately designed to be flexible enough to cover a wide variety of requirements in real-world projects.

G‑Core provides integrated JavaScript processors for incoming and outgoing Modbus data. This enables integrators to:

  • Evaluate register contents
  • Calculate and transform measured values
  • Filter state changes
  • Logically link events
  • Create individual PLC actions
  • Implement project-specific automation processes

In addition, a global state repository is available and can be shared by MQTT and Modbus processors. This makes it possible to implement even complex evaluation and automation logic directly within G‑Core.

Intelligently Connect Modbus and MQTT

A particular advantage of the integration is the direct connection between Modbus and the MQTT interface, which is also integrated into G‑Core. Register values from technical installations can be forwarded directly to MQTT brokers. Likewise, MQTT messages can trigger write operations on Modbus devices.

This makes it possible to connect industrial control systems, building automation and IoT platforms without additional middleware or separate gateway solutions. G‑Core becomes a central integration platform between operational, automation and security systems.

Typical Scenarios

  • Modbus data is transferred to IoT platforms
  • MQTT sensors control Modbus installations
  • Building automation and technical monitoring are connected
  • Process data is integrated into higher-level systems
  • Video events trigger actions in technical installations

Suitable for Different Installations and Systems

Modbus implementations often differ in terms of register structures, address ranges and data formats. For this reason, G‑Core offers maximum flexibility when processing technical data. Register values can be individually evaluated, converted and translated into project-specific actions.

This allows the integration to be precisely adapted to existing machines, control systems, energy installations or building automation systems without rigid specifications or proprietary limitations.
